On 12th October, the 26th annual World Travel Awards for the Asia-Pacific region in 2019 took place in Phu Quoc with the participation of 300 tourism businesses from countries in the region.
This year, Vietnam’s tourism industry has won in four top Asian categories:
- Asia’s Leading Destination 2019
- Asia’s Leading Culinary Destination 2019
- Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination 2019
- Hoian has been awarded the title “Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2019”.

Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, stated that this is a very proud award for tourism people. The 26th World Tourism Award confirms the position of our tourism industry in the region and around the world. This is a golden opportunity for Vietnam Tourism industry to enhance the promotion activities in the near future.
These awards also partly reflect the great efforts of the tourism industry and related ministries in tourism promotion. “In particular, this is the first time Vietnamese cuisine has been highly recognized by a world-renowned organization such as the WTA.”
Regarding the Brand developement strategy of Vietnam as a destination in the future, Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism emphasized: “The achievement of this result is contributed by all tourism businesses and tourism boards at all levels as well the strategy of the Government … Therefore, Vietnam has affirmed its position on the regional and world tourism map”
According to Mr. Graham Cooke, founder of WTA, “Vietnam’s tourism industry is making the whole world admire.” Since 2010, the number of international visitors has tripled (15 million), tourism revenue has reached US $ 26.75 billion (2018). “
The founder of WTA said that the awards achieved today will be an important stepping stone for Vietnam to strongly promote its culture, cuisine and destination to the world. “The award ceremony is an important milestone for the world tourism industry and Vietnam has got this wonderful opportunity,” said the WTA representative.
